The
Xavier College Foundation was established
in 1978. It is a company limited by guarantee
and the reasons for its existence today
are identical to when it was set up nearly
30 years ago.
The
Foundation exists solely to ensure Xavier's
on-going viability as a Jesuit school and
it does that by providing financial resources
to the College to offset the impact of rising
costs of education and dwindling Government
grants.
Over
the years of its existence the Foundation
has, as a result of the generosity of its
many donors, provided many millions of dollars
to Xavier (in the form of cash disbursements,
bequests and other gifts) which have enabled
the College to consolidate and develop further
the many wonderful things we have inherited
from the generations of Xavier supporters
who have preceded us.
The Foundation has a number of different
funds which serve a variety of purposes.
The
Endowment Fund is a large income-earning
fund which contains the corpus of monies
derived from bequests and other donations
which are invested with various fund mangers
and supervised by the Foundation's Finance
Committee. Monies from the Endowment Fund
are disbursed to Xavier every year to fund
capital developments, scholarships and other
initiatives.
The Foundation's Building Fund is a fund
to which any supporters of the school can
contribute fully tax-deductible donations.
Contributions to this fund have assisted
the construction of many new initiatives
over the years, including the new Science
complex and Performing Arts Centre which
will open in 2008.
